Robotic-Assisted Pyeloplasty

Overview

Baxter Health uses robotic pyeloplasty for the reconstruction of congenital kidney blockages. During the procedure, the healthy portion of the kidney is attached to the ureter. This technique restores urine flow and has a 95% success rate.

Eligibility for Robotic Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty

Patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) of the kidneys, deteriorating kidney function, a history of urinary tract infection or kidney stones are possible candidates.

After the Procedure

A catheter is placed to allow you to more easily urinate. After the procedure, the surgeon will place a ureteral stent to allow your sutures heal.

A couple of days in the hospital is typically required for observation. Light activity may be introduced on day 2. Before discharge, the catheter will be removed, but the stent may be left in place for a couple of weeks. Follow up visits are expected to ensure complete recovery.
